A sex offender who was recently released from custody has been arrested again after allegedly committing multiple indecent acts on Durham Region Transit (DRT) buses, according to Durham Regional Police.
Police previously issued a public safety advisory on October 7, warning residents about a man living in Oshawa who had been released after serving a sentence for several sexual assault-related offences.
On December 16, officers from Central East Division responded to a report of an indecent act on a DRT bus. Police said a passenger reported seeing a male masturbating while on board. The bus driver was alerted, and the individual was removed from the bus near Gibb Street in Oshawa.
A second incident involving the same individual was reported on December 27, police said. In that case, officers responded to another DRT bus where the man was again observed committing a similar act. Officers located the suspect at the scene and took him into custody.
The accused, a 52-year-old Oshawa resident, is now facing several new charges and was held for a bail hearing, police said.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed these incidents or experienced similar behaviour to contact police.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Dellipizzi of the Central East Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2766. Further details are available at www.drps.ca
