Port Perry Head On Crash Leaves One Dead North Of Oshawa

A Port Perry Head On Crash has left one man dead and two others seriously injured following a collision north of Oshawa early Sunday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to the crash on Highway 7 12 near Fourth Line in Port Perry shortly before 6 a.m. on March 9.

According to investigators, two passenger vehicles were travelling in opposite directions when a head on collision occurred. The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles and prompted a major emergency response from police, firefighters and paramedics.

Police confirmed that a 53 year old man from Sunderland was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other men involved in the Port Perry Head On Crash were transported to hospital with serious injuries. A 32 year old man from Innisfil was taken to hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries. A 35 year old man from North York suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a regional trauma centre for treatment.

Emergency crews closed all northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 7 12 for several hours while members of the Ontario Provincial Police conducted a detailed collision investigation.

Traffic in the area was diverted as officers documented the scene and collected evidence to determine what caused the Port Perry Head On Crash.

Head on collisions are among the most dangerous types of crashes and often result in severe injuries or fatalities due to the combined impact of vehicles travelling in opposite directions.

Police have not yet confirmed what factors may have contributed to the crash. Investigators will review road conditions, vehicle damage, possible driver actions and any available witness accounts.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the Port Perry Head On Crash or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision to contact the Ontario Provincial Police.

Witnesses can call the OPP at 1 888 310 1122.

Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can also submit information through Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222 8477 or online through the Ontario Crime Stoppers website.

The investigation into the Port Perry Head On Crash remains ongoing.
