A violent altercation between two women in Pickering early Friday morning ended with one woman suffering serious stab wounds and the other in police custody, according to Durham Regional Police. The Pickering stabbing Kingston Road incident has left the local community deeply shaken and raised significant concerns about escalating violence in residential areas of the city during the early morning hours when people are typically heading out to begin their daily routines of work, school, and other regular activities.
On Friday, April 24, at approximately 7:15 in the morning, members of the Durham Regional Police West Division responded to an urgent armed person call in the area of Kingston Road and Liverpool Road in the City of Pickering. Upon arrival at the scene, officers quickly determined that two females had become involved in a heated physical altercation during which one of the individuals suddenly brandished a knife and stabbed the other woman multiple times, causing serious injuries that required immediate emergency medical attention from the first responders who arrived at the location.
Following the violent stabbing, the suspect attempted to flee the area on foot before police could arrive and apprehend her at the scene of the incident. However, responding officers were able to quickly locate and successfully apprehend the accused woman in the nearby vicinity without any further incident, escalation, or need for additional use of force by the attending officers. The suspect was taken into police custody and has been formally held for a bail hearing in connection with the Pickering stabbing Kingston Road incident that occurred in the early morning hours of last Friday.
The victim, who sustained serious but thankfully non-life-threatening injuries during the frightening confrontation, was quickly transported by emergency paramedics to a Toronto-area trauma centre for specialized medical treatment and thorough evaluation by trauma specialists. Emergency responders acted swiftly to stabilize the injured woman at the scene before transporting her to the hospital, where she continues to receive ongoing medical care for the significant injuries she suffered during the violent encounter between the two individuals who were known to each other prior to the incident.
Durham Regional Police have confirmed that the victim and the accused in the Pickering stabbing Kingston Road case are known to each other, indicating that the incident was not a random attack on an unsuspecting stranger but rather a dispute between two acquaintances that rapidly escalated to serious and alarming violence. Police have not released further details about the specific nature of the relationship between the two women or what may have initially precipitated the altercation that ultimately led to the stabbing in the Pickering neighbourhood.
