Pickering road work at Westney Road and Concession Road 6 will require temporary lane closures as crews install sidewalks, crosswalks and new pavement.
The Region of Durham has hired D Rock Paving for the project. Work is expected to begin in early October and finish by November 15, depending on weather.
Four corners will receive upgrades
Crews will remove and replace existing concrete curbs at the intersection. New sidewalks will be installed at all four corners with tactile walking surface indicators.
The project also includes new asphalt, lane markings and crosswalk markings. The changes are intended to complete pedestrian crossing infrastructure at the rural Pickering intersection.
Traffic impacts expected during construction
Temporary lane closures will be needed while the work is underway. The City of Pickering says drivers should expect traffic impacts and use extra caution around workers, pedestrians and cyclists.
Construction equipment may create noise and ground vibration for nearby residents and businesses. The Region says crews will work to complete the project safely and quickly.
The Pickering road work is at Westney Road, also known as Regional Road 31, and Concession Road 6. Travellers should allow additional time until the expected mid-November completion.
