Marshall’s interest in magic began while he was a Grade 8 student at John A. Macdonald Public School, now known as Biidassige Mandamin Public School, in Pickering’s Bay Ridges neighbourhood. According to the report, teacher Robert Hendy showed students magician auditions from America’s Got Talent and challenged them to learn tricks capable of fooling him.
Several students initially participated, but Marshall continued practising after entering high school. He began studying magic seriously in 2013 and eventually specialized in cards and close-up performances.
During his televised audition, Marshall performed at the judges’ table, where cards appeared to change values and suits in front of Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Sofía Vergara and Mel B. NBC’s official recap says Vergara called him her favourite act of the day, while Cowell questioned how the routine could become larger in the next round before voting him through.
Marshall’s audition has already been covered in an earlier article. The new development is his selection for the Judges’ Callbacks, a Season 21 round placed between the original auditions and the live shows.

The two callback episodes are scheduled for August 4 and August 11 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on NBC, with streaming available on Peacock the following day. Marshall’s segment is expected during the August 11 episode.

Marshall was born in Toronto but credits his Pickering school years with helping launch his interest in magic. He described cards as familiar objects that allow audiences to connect easily with a performance, while the close-up format lets the apparent impossibility happen directly in a spectator’s hands.
The upcoming episode also gives him an opportunity to answer Cowell’s question about whether his act can expand beyond the audition. Moving from an intimate card routine to a performance suitable for a large live-show stage may be one of the biggest challenges facing a close-up magician.
