Oshawa Lane Restrictions are now in effect on sections of Wilson Road and Adelaide Avenue East as Durham Region begins a road rehabilitation project expected to continue through the end of September.

The temporary lane restrictions started this week and are scheduled to remain in place until September 30, 2026. Regional officials note that the construction timeline may change if weather conditions delay the work.

Roads affected by construction

The work is taking place on two important Oshawa roadways.

On Wilson Road, lane restrictions extend from Olive Avenue to Adelaide Avenue East.

On Adelaide Avenue East, restrictions are in place between Wilson Road and Dover Street.

The project focuses on rehabilitating the roadway to improve driving conditions and extend the life of the existing pavement. While the region has not outlined every phase of the work, rehabilitation projects typically involve pavement repairs, resurfacing, curb improvements and related maintenance to improve the condition of the road.

Expect traffic delays

Throughout construction, motorists should allow extra travel time when travelling through the affected area.

Lane reductions may slow traffic during peak morning and afternoon commuting periods. Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed, follow all temporary traffic signs and remain alert for changing lane configurations.

The work zone will include construction equipment, workers and temporary traffic-control measures designed to maintain safety while allowing traffic to continue moving through the area.

Residents and businesses located along Wilson Road and Adelaide Avenue East are expected to remain accessible during construction, although access points may occasionally change as work progresses.

Safety remains a priority

Durham Region is reminding all road users to use caution when approaching the construction area.

Motorists should watch for workers, obey posted speed limits within the work zone and leave additional stopping distance where traffic slows unexpectedly.

Cyclists and pedestrians are also encouraged to pay attention to temporary signs and follow any designated routes established during construction.

Construction zones can present changing conditions from day to day, making it important for everyone travelling through the area to remain alert.

Project scheduled through September

The Oshawa Lane Restrictions are expected to remain in place until September 30, although unfavourable weather or unforeseen construction issues could affect the completion date.

Durham Region says it understands that road construction can be inconvenient for residents and commuters. The municipality has stated that every effort will be made to complete the rehabilitation project as quickly and efficiently as possible while maintaining safe travel through the work zone.

Drivers who regularly use Wilson Road or Adelaide Avenue East may wish to plan alternate routes during busy travel periods to minimize delays.

Residents are encouraged to monitor Durham Region traffic updates for any changes to lane configurations or construction schedules as the rehabilitation work progresses over the coming weeks.
