The Oshawa Halloween Boo Bash will turn the city’s downtown into a free afternoon and evening event on Saturday, October 17.
Organizers have scheduled the first-time event from 1 to 10 p.m., with pumpkins, costumes, music, vendors, downtown trick-or-treating and several themed activity areas.
Early hours designed for younger and sensitive visitors
The program separates its scare-free and more theatrical periods. No scare actors will appear in designated Scare Zones between 1 and 3 p.m., giving families with younger children and visitors who are sensitive to sudden scares a quieter window.
Krampus is scheduled to arrive at 3 p.m. for a street party with music by Squid Lid. Before then, visitors can see Krampus’s Lair without actors. Other announced features include roaming costumed performers, large scarecrows created by local artists, circus entertainment and theatrical horror displays.
Pumpkin decorating and trick-or-treating
Free pumpkin decorating will run from 1 to 3 p.m. at the front of Victoria Lane, next to the Regent Theatre. Pumpkins and decorating materials are to be supplied. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Participating downtown businesses will also offer trick-or-treating. Organizers advise visitors to bring a bag and check the event site as the business list and remaining program details are finalized.
The Oshawa Halloween Boo Bash is promoted by Oshawa Tourism. Attendance is free, but the event page says some details are still being completed and may change before October 17.
