Several Oshawa festival road closures will affect the downtown core on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 as the Convergence Music and Art Festival returns.
The City of Oshawa says restrictions are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on both days. Celina Street between King and Athol streets is the exception listed as remaining closed overnight.
Drivers should expect increased traffic near the event area and plan alternate routes before travelling through downtown.
Downtown streets included in the closure
The City’s road notice lists the following affected sections:
- King Street between Centre and Mary streets
- Prince Street north of King Street
- Ontario Street between Bond and King streets
- Victoria Street between Bond and King streets
- Celina Street between King and Athol streets, including the overnight closure
- Albert Street between King and Athol streets
- Simcoe Street between Bond and Athol streets
- Simcoe Street between Athol and Bruce streets
Motorists should follow temporary signs and directions from traffic-control personnel. Access conditions can change as event infrastructure is installed and removed, so anyone with time-sensitive downtown travel should allow extra time.
Festival runs Saturday and Sunday
Convergence is scheduled from noon to 9 p.m. both days. Oshawa Tourism says the downtown event will include three live-music stages, art installations, vendors, food, professional wrestling, Nerd Alley, a punk-rock flea market and other all-ages activities.
The City will also offer free family art activities in Veterans Square from noon to 7 p.m. each day.
The traffic restrictions begin before the public festival hours and continue after programming ends to allow organizers to set up and safely clear the event area.
Residents attending the festival should check the organizer’s current schedule and the City’s closure map before leaving. Those not attending may find routes outside the King, Bond, Athol and Simcoe street area more convenient during the closure period.
