An Oshawa Dating App Assault investigation has resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old Toronto man after a woman reported being sexually assaulted by someone she had met through an online dating application.
Durham Regional Police said members of the East Division Criminal Investigations Branch began investigating the allegation on July 16, 2026.
According to police, the woman reported that she had met the man through BLK, an online dating platform.
Investigators later identified a suspect, and an arrest was made on Aug. 12.
Toronto man arrested
Police said the accused was taken into custody without incident.
Gregory Binns, 27, of Toronto, has been charged with:
- sexual assault
- assault by choking
- forcible confinement
He was held for a bail hearing.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
Police concerned there may be other victims
The Oshawa Dating App Assault investigation remains active because police say they are concerned there could be additional victims.
Investigators are encouraging anyone who may have had contact with Binns, or who has information that could assist the case, to speak with Durham Regional Police.
Police have also released an image of the accused through the Durham Regional Police Service website as part of the public appeal.
Authorities have not released additional details about where in Oshawa the alleged incident occurred or the circumstances leading up to it.
The identity of the complainant has not been released.
Investigation began in July
The East Division Criminal Investigations Branch opened the case after receiving the woman’s report on July 16.
Police said investigators worked to identify the person involved before making the arrest several weeks later.
No information has been released suggesting the woman and accused knew each other before connecting through the dating platform.
The supplied police release states only that they initially met through BLK.

Anyone with information connected to the Oshawa Dating App Assault investigation is asked to contact D/Cst. Cronin of the East Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 905-579-1520, extension 1605.
Anonymous tips may also be submitted through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have had contact with the accused and believes they have information relevant to the investigation.
Allegations remain before the courts
Durham police emphasized that information contained in the media release comes from an ongoing police investigation.
Binns has been charged, but criminal charges do not establish guilt.
The allegations will need to be tested through the court process, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Police have not announced whether further charges are expected.
The investigation could also be updated if additional complainants come forward or investigators obtain new evidence.
For now, Durham Regional Police continue to seek information from the public while the accused faces sexual assault, assault by choking and forcible confinement charges arising from the Oshawa investigation.
