Access to primary healthcare in Durham Region is getting a boost as an Oshawa clinic accepting new patients has announced that three family doctors are now welcoming residents. The update comes from Valleyview Medical Centre — Harmony, which recently celebrated its first anniversary while continuing to expand its services to meet growing community needs.
The Oshawa clinic accepting new patients is located at 991 Taunton Road East, Unit B3, in a plaza at the southeast corner of Taunton and Harmony roads. The clinic is led by Dr. Olajide Afolarin, along with Dr. Olugbenga Ajayi and Dr. Maren Preussler, who collectively serve as primary care providers for nearly 7,000 patients in the region.
As demand for family doctors continues to rise across Ontario, the announcement that an Oshawa clinic accepting new patients is expanding access is welcome news for many residents who have struggled to find consistent primary care. The clinic aims to provide comprehensive, community-focused healthcare with a range of convenient services designed to improve patient experience.
Valleyview Medical Centre — Harmony offers several features that make accessing care easier. These include free parking, online appointment booking, email communication, and same-day appointments, helping to reduce wait times and improve accessibility. In addition, the clinic provides walk-in services for non-registered patients during regular business hours, ensuring that urgent needs can still be addressed.
Another key advantage of the Oshawa clinic accepting new patients is its integrated approach to healthcare. The clinic works closely with Harmony PharmaChoice, located on-site, allowing patients to conveniently fill prescriptions after their appointments. The building also houses the Ontario Cardiology Center, offering referral services for patients who require cardiac testing, whether for routine check-ups or urgent care.
Clinic co-ordinator Kayla Schultz emphasized the importance of a community-based approach to healthcare. She noted that the clinic strives to keep services in-house whenever possible, providing patients with a more comprehensive and seamless healthcare experience compared to traditional systems.
The clinic also plays an active role in public health initiatives. Valleyview collaborates with Durham Public Health to support vaccination programs and serves as a key location for updating school immunizations. Parents visiting for vaccinations are reminded to bring their child’s health card, vaccination records, and any relevant public health documentation.
The Oshawa clinic accepting new patients operates with extended hours to accommodate busy schedules. It is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, and on weekends from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, making it easier for working individuals and families to access care.
Residents interested in becoming patients can apply either in person at the clinic or by email at valleyviewharmony@gmail.com. For additional information, individuals can contact the clinic directly at 905-367-5402.
As Durham Region continues to grow, the availability of family doctors remains a critical concern. The expansion of services at Valleyview Medical Centre — Harmony represents a positive step toward improving healthcare access and ensuring that more residents can receive the care they need close to home.
