Five non-profit organizations in Ajax and Whitby are set to receive a total of $366,000 in provincial funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s seed grant stream. The grants aim to strengthen organizational resilience and improve the delivery of programs and services that benefit local communities.
In Ajax, funding recipients include:
- ASE Community Foundation – $99,300
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Durham and Northumberland – $94,400
Ontario Tourism, Culture and Gaming Minister Stan Cho highlighted the importance of supporting non-profits, stating that the grants empower communities by helping organizations provide skill-building, mentorship, and meaningful connections.
Melanie Stewart, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Durham and Northumberland, said the funding will help address a critical gap in services. The organization will now be able to offer group programming for youth aged 6–10 who are currently on a waitlist, providing positive mentorship to up to 45 children.
Liza Arnason, Founder and Chair of the ASE Community Foundation, expressed gratitude for the province’s support, particularly in programs focused on Black neurodivergent youth.
The funding demonstrates Ontario’s ongoing commitment to strengthen local non-profits and help communities thrive.
