Residents of Oshawa near the Simcoe Street Bridge are being informed about an upcoming water shutoff due to ongoing utility work on the bridge. Metrolinx, in cooperation with Durham Region, will temporarily shut down water service to properties in the affected area on the night of February 23, 2026. The shutdown will begin at 11:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, and last until 7:00 a.m. the following morning, allowing for essential work to be completed on the bridge.
The water interruption will impact homes and businesses located along Simcoe Street, between First Avenue and Olive Avenue, as well as properties on Hall Street. A Metrolinx notice was issued to residents in the area to keep them informed of the planned disruption.
To help minimize the impact, residents are advised to:
-
Store sufficient water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning before the scheduled shutoff.
-
Avoid using appliances that require water, such as dishwashers and washing machines, during the interruption.
-
Once water service is restored, residents should run a cold water tap for about five minutes to flush out any sediment that may have entered the system and to ensure their hot water tank is free from any debris.
In addition to the water shutoff, residents may experience some noise, vibration, and dust due to ongoing construction activities related to the bridge work. These disturbances are expected as part of the utility work being carried out during the night.
In case of unforeseen circumstances or inclement weather, the water shutoff will be rescheduled to begin on February 24, 2026. Residents are encouraged to monitor local updates for any changes to the schedule.
Metrolinx is working closely with local authorities to ensure the project proceeds smoothly while keeping residents informed about any necessary disruptions. The utility work is part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure and facilitate the transit developments taking place in the area.
