However, while the sunshine may lift spirits, the cold air remains firmly in place, with wind chill values plunging as low as -23 C in some areas overnight.
Sunday morning will begin under mostly clear conditions, providing early risers with a picturesque 6:53 a.m. sunrise. The clear skies are expected to stretch across much of the region, making for a crisp but beautiful start to the day.
In Mississauga, Brampton, and Halton, residents can expect mainly sunny skies throughout the day. Temperatures will climb to a daytime high of -5 C in Mississauga and Brampton, and -4 C in Halton. However, the morning will feel significantly colder, with wind chills between -17 C and -16 C. By the afternoon, conditions will moderate slightly, feeling closer to -7 C as winds reach speeds of up to 20 km/h.
Hamilton will also enjoy bright, sunny skies. The temperature will reach a high of -4 C, though the wind chill will make it feel closer to -15 C in the morning, warming slightly to around -8 C by afternoon. Winds are expected to increase to 20 km/h near midday, maintaining a noticeable chill despite the sunshine.
In Durham Region, the day will begin with a mix of sun and cloud before transitioning to full sunshine later in the afternoon. The daytime high is forecast to reach -7 C, with wind chill values hovering near -16 C during the day. Winds will strengthen to approximately 20 km/h by the afternoon, contributing to the colder feel.
Sunset will occur at 6:03 p.m., with clear skies expected to continue into the evening hours. As nighttime approaches, temperatures will drop significantly across southern Ontario.
Overnight lows will be especially cold. Mississauga and Brampton will see temperatures dip to -15 C, with wind chills sliding from -14 C to -19 C under light winds of 15 km/h.
In Halton, temperatures will fall even further to -19 C, with wind chills plunging to -23 C overnight, making it one of the coldest spots in the region. Winds will remain steady at approximately 15 km/h.
Hamilton will experience a low of around -14 C, with wind chills falling from -10 C in the evening to -17 C by early morning.
Meanwhile, Durham Region will see overnight temperatures reach -17 C, with wind chills dropping to approximately -22 C.
Despite the return of sunshine, residents are advised to dress warmly and take precautions against frostbite and exposure, especially during early morning and late evening hours. March may have arrived on the calendar, but winter’s grip remains firmly in place across southern Ontario.
