The final Canadian brick-and-mortar location of U.S.-based retailer Yankee Candle has officially closed, marking the company’s full exit from Canada after 14 years.

The store, located at Oshawa Centre, displayed a notice informing customers of the closure. The sign noted that while the store was closing, customers could still visit the nearest physical location in Niagara Falls, New York.

According to Retail Insider, the Oshawa location was the last remaining Yankee Candle store in Canada. The closure follows a broader restructuring by parent company Newell Brands, which announced on December 1 that it would shut down approximately 20 Yankee Candle stores across the United States and Canada, with closures taking effect in January 2026.

“We’ve made meaningful progress executing our strategy and strengthening Newell Brands, but there is more work to do,” said Chris Peterson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Newell Brands. “Our goal is to deliver greater value for consumers and create sustained long-term value for our shareholders.”

The Oshawa store was popular with customers and sold scented candles, home fragrances, and gift items. The closure prompted disappointment among loyal shoppers, with one customer writing on Google Reviews that they were saddened by the loss of the only remaining Yankee Candle store in Canada.

Founded in 1969 by Mike Kittredge, who began making candles as a teenager in his family kitchen, Yankee Candle expanded significantly over the decades. At one point, the company operated around 12 stores in southern Ontario and had plans to grow to 50 locations nationwide.

Although its standalone stores have closed, Yankee Candle products will remain available in Canada through retailers such as Canadian Tire, Walmart, and Staples Canada.
