Ajax’s Green Living Days 2026 is here to bring the community together for a cleaner, greener Ajax! The annual event, organized by the Town of Ajax, is a celebration of environmental sustainability and the efforts residents can make to protect and enhance the local environment. From clean-ups to tree-planting and home flood protection workshops, there are several activities for all ages that promote environmental stewardship and community engagement.
Spring Clean-Up Challenge
One of the highlights of Green Living Days 2026 is the Spring Clean-Up Challenge, which runs from April to June. The Town of Ajax encourages residents to join the effort by picking up their free clean-up toolkit, which includes gloves and bags to collect litter and help keep Ajax clean. Residents can contact the Town via email or phone to pick up their toolkits and participate in this community-wide initiative.
Mature Tree Conservation Program
Residents can also get involved in the Ajax Mature Tree Conservation Program, which offers rebates to help with the maintenance and care of mature trees on private property. This program is part of Ajax’s commitment to ensuring a healthy urban forest and helping residents preserve the natural beauty of their properties. To see if your tree qualifies for a rebate, visit ajax.ca/maturetreeprogram.
Earth Hour 2026
On Saturday, March 28, 2026, join Ajax for the Earth Hour 2026 event. From 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., residents are invited to switch off their lights and spend 60 minutes doing something positive for the planet. Earth Hour is an annual global event that encourages individuals and communities to take simple actions that can have a big impact on the environment.
Community Tree Planting and Compost Giveaway
Another exciting event is the Community Tree Planting, which will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Greenwood Conservation Area. The Town of Ajax is partnering with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) to plant 1,300 native trees and shrubs. Bring your shovel and gloves to help enhance the local canopy and protect the environment for generations to come. Additionally, residents can visit the Compost Giveaway Event at the Operations Centre on the same day to pick up compost and mulch for their gardens.
Gardening for Birds, Butterflies & Beyond
On Thursday, April 30, 2026, Ajax Public Library will host a workshop on gardening to attract and protect native pollinators, including Monarch butterflies and Ruby-throated hummingbirds. Learn how to create an eco-friendly garden that supports wildlife and helps promote biodiversity. Registration is required for this event.
Bird Watching by the Lake
For those who enjoy birdwatching, Ajax will offer a guided birding walk on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Carruthers Marsh Pavilion. This event will allow residents to enjoy the spring migration and view spectacular birds that pass through the Ajax waterfront. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, binoculars will be provided for all participants.
