GM Investment Canada has announced a $63 million investment in its Oshawa Assembly plant to upgrade stamping operations and enhance its service parts business. This investment supports the next-generation production of full-size pickups, including the Chevrolet Silverado.
This investment brings GM’s total commitment to Oshawa to $1.5 billion since 2020. After concerns about the plant’s future following the U.S. trade war and the elimination of the third shift, this announcement secures the future of the Oshawa facility. GM Oshawa remains the only North American plant to produce both light and heavy-duty pickups on the same line.
GM’s continued investment highlights the Oshawa plant’s crucial role in the company’s full-size truck portfolio and further strengthens GM’s presence in Canada.
Oshawa Mayor’s Statement
Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter expressed appreciation for GM’s commitment, stating: “We are proud of the talented workforce at Oshawa Assembly. GM’s continued investment reinforces Oshawa’s position as a leader in advanced automotive manufacturing.
