Residents across Durham Region are being advised of temporary changes to waste collection services due to the upcoming Good Friday holiday, with adjustments affecting several municipalities.

According to the Region of Durham, residents in Ajax, Brock, Clarington, Pickering, Scugog, and Uxbridge who normally receive curbside waste collection on Fridays will experience a schedule shift. Instead of their usual Friday pickup, waste collection will take place on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

Officials are encouraging residents to plan ahead and ensure their waste is placed at the curb on the revised collection day to avoid missed pickups. The change is part of standard holiday scheduling adjustments implemented each year across Durham Region.

To help residents stay updated, the Region recommends downloading the Durham Region Waste App or checking the online collection calendar. These tools provide customized collection schedules, reminders, and helpful features such as the “Know Before You Throw” search tool, which helps residents properly sort waste items.

It is important to note that waste collection services in Oshawa and Whitby are managed separately by their local municipalities, meaning residents in those areas should check with their city services for any changes to their schedules.

In addition to curbside collection changes, several waste facilities across Durham Region will also be temporarily closed during the holiday period. The Regional Waste Management Facilities in Brock, Scugog, and Oshawa, along with the Household Special Waste Depot in Clarington, will be closed on Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4. Regular operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, April 7.

The Durham Region Waste Management Centre in Whitby, located at 4600 Garrard Road, will also be closed on Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6. Residents who need waste bins or kitchen containers are encouraged to take advantage of online ordering with free home delivery through the region’s website.

Officials remind residents that Ontario’s recycling program is now managed by Circular Materials, and additional information about recycling services can be found through their platform.

With multiple service changes in place, residents are advised to stay informed and prepare in advance to avoid disruptions. For further assistance, residents can contact Durham Region by dialing 311, emailing 311@durham.ca, or visiting the official website.

These temporary changes are part of Durham Region’s efforts to maintain efficient service operations while accommodating statutory holidays.
