A Beaverton man is facing multiple criminal charges after York Regional Police discovered a loaded firearm and drugs during a traffic stop in Markham earlier this week.
Police say officers stopped a vehicle near Major Mackenzie Drive and Jennings Gate at approximately 2 p.m. on January 5. During the stop, officers observed cannabis readily accessible inside the vehicle.
A subsequent search led to the seizure of a loaded handgun, marijuana, and substances believed to be fentanyl, cocaine, oxycodone, and hydromorphone, according to police.
A 22-year-old man from Beaverton, in Brock Township, has been charged with six firearms-related offences, four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, and driving with cannabis readily available. A 37-year-old man from Toronto was also arrested and faces similar charges.
York Regional Police are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information to contact police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7541.
