Durham Labour Day closures will affect regional offices, health and social services, transit schedules and curbside collection on Monday, September 7.
Durham Regional Headquarters in Whitby will be closed, including Provincial Offences Court offices, Ontario Works, child-care administration, front counters and call-centre services. Directly operated child-care centres and all Family Services Durham locations will also close.
DRT will use a weekend schedule
Durham Region Transit will operate on a weekend schedule. The customer service desk at 110 Westney Road South in Ajax will be closed, while the Specialized Services line will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Passengers should check their route before travelling because weekend frequencies and operating hours may differ from regular Monday service.
Health and social-service impacts
Ontario Works offices in Ajax, Oshawa and Uxbridge will close. The Lakeview Manor Adult Day Program in Beaverton is closed Friday, September 4 and Monday, September 7, while the Hillsdale Estates program in Oshawa is closed on Labour Day.
Regional oral health, sexual health, breastfeeding and immunization clinics will be unavailable. Water-sample services at listed regional locations are unavailable September 4 and resume Tuesday, September 8 at 8:30 a.m.
Municipal and waste changes
Whitby Town Hall closes at 4:30 p.m. September 4 and reopens September 8 at 8:30 a.m. Most Whitby facilities close September 7, although Port Whitby Marina is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Whitby libraries close September 6 and 7.
Oshawa City Hall and Service Oshawa close September 7. There will be no Monday waste pickup in Oshawa or Whitby; collection shifts one day later. Residents elsewhere should confirm their municipal schedule.
Durham’s homelessness outreach continues during the closure. Urgent regional water, sewer or road problems can be reported through the Region’s after-hours channels.
