The third annual Durham IPV awareness walk starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 3, at Durham Region Headquarters, 605 Rossland Road East in Whitby.
Nine organizations are presenting the event with the Region: Bethesda House, Herizon House, Luke’s Place, Safety Network Durham, The Denise House, Victim Services Durham Region, WMRCC, Durham Rape Crisis Centre and YWCA Durham.
Organizers say the walk will honour survivors, remember people lost to intimate partner violence and support safer communities. The groups provide shelter, counselling, legal support, advocacy and crisis services.
The event is free and open to everyone. Donations are welcome but are not required. Family activities, displays, games and prize draws are planned after the walk.
Registration is open through the organizers. Anyone in immediate danger should call emergency services.
