Durham Circular Economy Month will run throughout October with weekly themes encouraging residents and businesses to reuse, repair and retain the value of materials.
Regional Chair John Henry issued the proclamation on behalf of Durham Region’s Works Committee. The campaign expands Waste Reduction Week into a month-long national program.
Five weekly themes
Understanding Circularity runs October 1 to 4. Protecting the Planet follows October 5 to 11, and Building Economic Resilience runs October 12 to 18. Waste Reduction Week continues October 19 to 25, followed by Strengthening Communities from October 26 to 31.
Materials focus on construction waste, textiles, electronics and critical minerals, packaging and food. The Region says circular practices can reduce waste and emissions while supporting biodiversity, jobs and supply chains.
Local resources
Durham promotes five principles: rethink, reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. The Region has also joined the Share, Reuse, Repair Hub, connecting residents with opportunities to swap, resell and donate items.
