In a major breakthrough for local healthcare access, Valleyview Medical Corporation has announced that its clinics in Whitby, Oshawa, Courtice, and Bowmanville are currently accepting thousands of new patients. Shahzad Rana, co-owner of the medical group, confirmed on April 24, 2026, that his facilities are actively recruiting international physicians to fill the primary care gap in the region. With each new doctor capable of managing a roster of up to 2,000 residents, the expansion represents a significant opportunity for the thousands of Durham inhabitants who have been without a consistent family physician for years.

The flagship Whitby location, Valleyview Medical Centre at 1916 Dundas St. E., is currently home to four family doctors and a full-service pharmacy. Rana noted that many of the physicians at this site have relocated from the United Kingdom and have fully integrated into the community. The recruitment strategy is part of a larger plan to stabilize local healthcare; however, Rana explained that existing doctors must reach their full patient capacity before additional physicians can be relocated to the region. This “roster-first” approach ensures that new doctors have a sustainable practice from the moment they arrive in Ontario.

Beyond Whitby, the clinics in Whitby and Oshawa are joined by several other high-capacity sites. The Courtice clinic, situated at the intersection of Nash and Trulls roads, is preparing to take on a massive influx of patients, with plans to introduce a female physician once current rosters are filled. In Oshawa, a clinic located at 991 Taunton Rd. E. (Unit 3B) near Harmony Road is also open for registration. Furthermore, a specialized clinic within the Wilmot Creek gated community in Newcastle is accepting new patients specifically for its residents, ensuring that the senior population in that area has immediate access to care.

Rana, who transitioned into the medical sector from the petroleum industry after identifying a dire need for family doctors, currently has a list of ten additional physicians awaiting relocation. The success of these clinics in Whitby and Oshawa is a vital component of the region’s health infrastructure, especially as Valleyview expands further east into Peterborough. “Whoever you are, we just want to treat you and provide you with a physician,” Rana stated, emphasizing a “no-barrier” approach to intake. This sentiment is a welcome relief for a region that has struggled with long wait times and overcapacity in emergency departments.

Residents looking for a family doctor are encouraged to visit the official Valleyview website to begin the registration process. As the 2026 spring season continues, the availability of these spots is expected to fill quickly. By providing a dedicated path for international doctors to settle in Durham, Rana’s clinics are not only treating patients but also ensuring that the region remains an attractive and viable place for medical professionals to build their careers. If you or a family member are currently unattached to a primary care provider, now is the ideal time to secure a spot at one of these local facilities.
