Canadians affected by a 23andMe Canadian data breach payout case are now eligible for a share of a $3.25 million settlement. This payout stems from a significant data breach at the genetic testing company that impacted nearly seven million customers, including almost 320,000 people in Canada.

The breach occurred between April 29, 2023, and October 1, 2023, when a hacker gained access to sensitive customer data. Among the compromised information were health-related details, racial and ethnic data, gender information, and data about relatives. More than 18,000 customer accounts were affected, and the breach raised concerns about the security of personal data in online services.

The Canadian Privacy Commissioner confirmed the breach in October 2023, and class action lawsuits were filed on behalf of Canadian customers in late 2023 and 2024. As a result, a settlement of $3.25 million (U.S.) was reached in September 2025, providing compensation for affected customers.

The settlement is available to individuals who were 23andMe customers during the breach period, which spans from May 1, 2023, to October 1, 2023. To be eligible for the payout, affected customers must have received a notice from 23andMe indicating that their personal information was compromised. It’s important to note that customers who opted out of the settlement are not eligible for compensation.

To claim their portion of the payout, eligible customers must submit a Canadian claim form before 11:59 p.m. on June 25, 2026. Full instructions and further details on the claims process can be found on the official settlement website at www.canadian23andmesettlement.ca.

The 23andMe Canadian data breach payout is part of a broader effort to address the impact of data breaches and hold companies accountable for safeguarding their customers’ sensitive information. The settlement provides an opportunity for those affected by this breach to receive compensation for the harm caused by the unauthorized access to their personal data.

Individuals who believe they are eligible for compensation are encouraged to review the settlement details and submit their claims promptly. The deadline for claims is fast approaching, and affected customers should act before June 25, 2026, to ensure they are included in the payout.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, the 23andMe Canadian data breach payout serves as a reminder of the importance of robust data security measures and the need for companies to prioritize consumer privacy. It also underscores the growing trend of consumers asserting their rights when their personal information is compromised.
