A major infrastructure milestone has been reached in Durham Region as Oshawa Power breaks ground on new headquarters Oshawa, marking the start of construction on a modern facility that will support the city’s energy needs for decades to come. The project is now underway at a 6.5-acre site in the Thornton Business Park, with completion targeted for late 2027.

The Oshawa Power breaks ground on new headquarters Oshawa announcement signals a significant step forward for the city-owned utility, which has been serving the community for more than a century. The new facility is expected to enhance operations, improve efficiency, and better accommodate the company’s growing infrastructure and fleet.

This move comes nearly 95 years after Oshawa Power, then known as the Oshawa Public Utilities Commission, relocated to its current headquarters at 100 Simcoe Street South in 1931. With increasing demands and advancements in technology, the utility has outgrown its existing space and is now investing in a more modern, state-of-the-art environment.

According to Oshawa Power CEO Daniel Arbour, the new headquarters will play a crucial role in strengthening service delivery. He emphasized that the upgraded facility will allow the company to consolidate operations, improve workflow, and continue providing safe and reliable electricity to residents and businesses throughout Oshawa.

The Oshawa Power breaks ground on new headquarters Oshawa project is being developed with the support of several key partners. These include Cushman & Wakefield, a global leader in commercial real estate and development services; Barry Bryan and Associates, a local firm specializing in architecture and engineering; and Fortis Group, the construction company responsible for bringing the project to life. Together, these partners will ensure the project meets modern standards while reflecting the needs of the community.

The new headquarters will not only improve operational efficiency but also support innovation within the utility sector. By creating a centralized and technologically advanced workspace, Oshawa Power aims to enhance its ability to respond to the evolving energy landscape and the needs of a growing population in Durham Region.

Oshawa Power has a long and proud history dating back to 1887, when it was founded as the Oshawa Electric Company. At that time, the company introduced electricity to the city with just 15 light posts, serving a handful of local businesses. Over the years, it has grown into a key provider of electrical services, playing an essential role in the city’s development.

The decision to invest in a new headquarters reflects both the company’s growth and its commitment to the future. As Oshawa continues to expand, the demand for reliable and efficient energy services is increasing. The new facility will help ensure that Oshawa Power is well-equipped to meet these demands while maintaining high standards of service.

The Oshawa Power breaks ground on new headquarters Oshawa project also represents economic activity within the region. Construction will involve local expertise and create opportunities within the building and engineering sectors, contributing to Durham Region’s ongoing development.

With construction now officially underway, residents can expect to see progress over the coming months as the new facility begins to take shape. The anticipated move-in by the fourth quarter of 2027 marks a long-term investment in infrastructure that will benefit the community for generations.

As Oshawa continues to grow and evolve, projects like this highlight the city’s commitment to modernization, sustainability, and reliable service delivery.
