Residents across Durham Region and the Greater Toronto Area can expect brighter skies on March 8, as the weather forecast calls for sunshine later in the day while Daylight Saving Time officially begins across Ontario.

Clocks moved forward one hour early Sunday morning, giving residents an extra hour of daylight in the evening. While the time change may take some adjustment for many people, the weather forecast suggests the day will bring improving conditions and a welcome glimpse of spring.

According to Environment Canada, the March 8 weather in Durham Region will start with cloudy skies in the morning across communities including Oshawa, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, and Niagara.

Any lingering rain from earlier weather systems is expected to end early in the day, allowing conditions to gradually improve as the morning progresses.

By late morning, forecasters say the cloud cover should begin to break apart. As the clouds move out, sunshine is expected to appear across Durham Region and the surrounding areas, bringing clearer skies for most of the afternoon.

The improved weather conditions are expected to provide residents with a more pleasant Sunday after several days of unsettled weather across southern Ontario.

Temperatures will gradually rise throughout the day, reaching a high of approximately 10°C during the afternoon, with the warmest part of the day expected around 3 p.m.

Although the sunshine will make the day feel brighter and more comfortable, some light wind gusts of up to 20 km/h may be felt during the day. These winds may create a slight chill in shaded areas despite the milder temperatures.

As the evening arrives, temperatures will begin to drop again. The overnight low is expected to reach around 5°C, keeping conditions relatively mild compared to typical early March temperatures.

The March 8 weather in Durham Region also marks an important seasonal milestone as the region shifts into Daylight Saving Time. The additional evening daylight is often welcomed by residents, giving people more time for outdoor activities after work or school.

With longer days and improving temperatures, many residents are beginning to feel the early signs of the approaching spring season.

Looking ahead to the start of the week, the forecast suggests even warmer and sunnier conditions for Monday.

Environment Canada predicts clear skies and sunshine, with daytime temperatures expected to climb to around 15°C, making it one of the warmest days the region has seen in recent weeks.

Such temperatures are noticeably warmer than the seasonal average for early March, when daytime highs in southern Ontario typically sit closer to 2°C.

The warmer weather and longer daylight hours are expected to encourage more outdoor activity across Durham Region communities, including parks, walking trails, and waterfront areas.

Daylight Saving Time will remain in effect throughout Ontario until early November, when clocks will return to standard time.
