The Whitby arena and pickleball naming rights deal is set to bring more than $1.1 million to the town after new sponsorship agreements were signed for several major recreation facilities.

The Town of Whitby has secured contracts with Whitby Toyota and Whitby Orthodontics covering naming rights at three facilities, including an arena and the new outdoor pickleball courts at the soon-to-open Fieldgate Sports Complex. The agreements are expected to be ratified at an upcoming council meeting.

Under the Whitby arena and pickleball naming rights deal, Whitby Toyota signed two ten-year contracts at the Fieldgate Sports Complex. The pickleball courts agreement is valued at $700,000, while the naming rights for Arena 1 are worth $250,000. Whitby Toyota also renewed its long-standing naming rights agreement for McKinney Arena 3 for another five years at a value of $110,000.

Whitby Orthodontics renewed its four-year naming rights agreement for Arena 2 at the Iroquois Park Sports Complex, valued at $80,000.

The Fieldgate Sports Complex, scheduled to open this summer, is a major investment in Whitby’s recreational infrastructure. Arena 1 will feature geothermal seating, six dressing rooms, electric Zambonis and enhanced viewing areas. The outdoor pickleball facility is expected to become the largest cluster of outdoor courts in Ontario, with 14 courts planned.

In addition, the overall naming rights agreement with Fieldgate Homes for the sports complex itself is valued at approximately $1.5 million over ten years, further boosting the town’s revenue through corporate partnerships.

Iroquois Park Sports Complex, one of the facilities included in the Whitby arena and pickleball naming rights deal, remains a cornerstone of community recreation. The 50-acre site is Canada’s largest municipally owned and operated multi-use sports complex. It includes six arenas, a 25-metre swimming pool, a fitness centre, pro shop, licensed restaurant, and outdoor amenities such as soccer fields, baseball diamonds and a skate park.

The complex is also home to the annual Ontario Lacrosse Festival, a major provincial event that brings together more than 8,000 athletes and coaches over ten days.

Town officials say sponsorship agreements like the Whitby arena and pickleball naming rights deal help offset operational costs while allowing continued investment in community facilities without placing additional burden on taxpayers.

With the Fieldgate Sports Complex opening this summer, Whitby continues to position itself as a regional hub for recreation, sports tourism and community programming across Durham Region.
