Fire crews in the Ontario region are on high alert after multiple fires, including an Ajax Plaza fire Oshawa fire, broke out across Oshawa and Ajax over the past few days. The most recent Oshawa fire occurred early Thursday morning when a shoe repair shop caught fire at Olive Avenue and Oshawa Boulevard. Police have urged drivers to avoid the area as the scene remains active.
Although the cause of the Oshawa fire remains unconfirmed, Oshawa Boulevard, from St. Eloi Avenue to Mitchell Avenue, is expected to remain closed for much of the day. Traffic on Olive Avenue between Verdun Road and Ritson Road was reopened just after 9 a.m. Thursday.
Oshawa Fire crews were also kept busy this week with a residential fire on Richmond Street East, which occurred on Tuesday. In Ajax, fire crews responded to a fire at Ajax Plaza on Monday at around 2 a.m., with the investigation now handed over to the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office.
The fire at Ajax Plaza, located at Harwood Avenue and Hunt Street, was quickly contained. Local business, Wratz Collectibles, expressed gratitude towards Ajax Fire Department, the police, and all those involved in keeping the situation under control. The business shared a post on Facebook: “Luckily we dodged a big one. Fire was contained quickly by the best in the business. We will be open as usual tomorrow.”
