The Town of Ajax has been officially recognized as an Ajax Age-Friendly Community, earning provincial acknowledgement for its efforts to support residents as they age.
The designation highlights Ajax’s commitment to creating an inclusive, accessible, and supportive environment for people of all ages and abilities. According to the town, the recognition reflects ongoing investments designed to help older adults live safely, remain active, and stay engaged in community life.
How Ajax Supports an Age-Friendly Community
As part of its Ajax Age-Friendly Community initiatives, the town has implemented several key measures:
-
Installed dedicated charging stations for personal mobility devices in all municipal buildings
-
Added an accessible lift and transfer equipment in the Audley Recreation Centre change room
-
Developed a comprehensive community resource guide and age-friendly webpage to improve access to information and services
-
Introduced more than 28 free programs and workshops designed specifically for older residents
-
Established Aging Well Month each June, offering free activities that promote wellness, connection, and active living
Town officials say these initiatives aim to ensure residents can continue participating fully in community life while maintaining independence and well-being as they age.
The Ajax Age-Friendly Community recognition reinforces the town’s broader goal of building spaces and services that are inclusive, accessible, and supportive for current and future generations.
