A man has been arrested following an Oshawa Centre theft arrest involving a knife at a shopping mall electronics kiosk.
Durham Regional Police say officers responded to a robbery call at the Oshawa Centre on the morning of Thursday, January 22, 2026. A suspect was observed stealing items from a cell phone kiosk before being confronted by mall security. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly brandished a knife and fled the scene in a vehicle.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
Later that day, police located the suspect in Brampton, where he was taken into custody by Peel Regional Police and transferred to the DRPS Robbery Unit. Investigators confirmed the suspect’s identity after he initially provided false information to police.
Ekampreet Singh, 27, of Brampton, has been charged with multiple offences, including assault with a weapon, theft under $5,000, mischief, obstruction of a peace officer, personation to avoid arrest, and several probation and release violations.
Police noted the accused was under existing court-imposed conditions, including a weapons prohibition, at the time of his arrest. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Investigators are asking anyone with surveillance, dashcam, or mobile phone footage related to the Oshawa Centre theft arrest to contact the DRPS Robbery Unit. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers.
