Police are investigating Ajax tree vandalism after approximately 15 newly planted trees were deliberately damaged near Millers Creek Park.
Ajax Mayor Shaun Collier condemned the incident in a statement released on Jan. 21, calling it a “deliberate act of vandalism” that will not be tolerated. Photos provided by the Town of Ajax show several young trees broken at the trunk and effectively destroyed.
“This behaviour is unacceptable and undermines community investment intended for everyone to enjoy,” Collier said.
Durham Regional Police have been notified, and a formal report has been filed. Town staff attended the site on Jan. 22 to remove the damaged trees and are planning to replant replacements in the spring.
Town officials emphasized their commitment to protecting parks and greenspaces across Ajax, noting that vandalism impacts the entire community.
