A youth is facing charges following an Oshawa Centre robbery involving a smash-and-grab at a jewelry store, according to Durham Regional Police.
Police said the incident occurred Wednesday at approximately 6:40 p.m. at Oshawa Jewellery, located inside the Oshawa Centre. Investigators allege that three male suspects entered the store and smashed multiple display cases before fleeing with jewelry.
One suspect was apprehended inside the mall and taken into custody. Police said the remaining two suspects fled the scene in a waiting vehicle before officers arrived.
No employees or customers were physically injured during the Oshawa Centre robbery, police confirmed.
The suspect who was arrested is a 13-year-old boy from Hamilton. He has been charged with robbery, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Police said he was held for a bail hearing.
At least three suspects remain outstanding, and no descriptions have been released at this time.
Durham police are asking anyone who was inside the Oshawa Centre or in the parking lot between 6 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., and who may have cell phone, dash-cam, or surveillance footage related to the Oshawa Centre robbery, to contact the Robbery Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5355.
