A suspect is facing charges following an Oshawa armed robbery at a local business that ended with a tactical police response and a safe arrest.
Durham Regional Police said officers from Central East Division responded to a robbery call at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, at True North Cannabis, located at 1076 Cedar Street in Oshawa.
Police allege a male suspect entered the business, pointed a knife toward two employees, and stole a cash register before fleeing the scene prior to officers’ arrival. No employees were physically injured during the incident.
Investigators later tracked the suspect to a nearby residence, where he barricaded himself inside and refused to surrender. After brief negotiations, members of the Tactical Support Unit took the suspect into custody without incident.
The suspect is a 31-year-old man from Oshawa. Police said his name and additional details are available through the Durham Regional Police Service website.
Durham police are asking anyone with cell phone footage, dash-cam video, surveillance recordings, or information related to the Oshawa armed robbery to contact the Robbery Crime Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5355.
