A busy stretch of Courtice Road in south Courtice will be closed to traffic for approximately six weeks, beginning January 26, as Durham Region undertakes infrastructure work to support a new housing development.
The closure will affect Courtice Road between Bloor Street and approximately 585 metres north of Baseline Road, on the north side of Highway 401. The roadway is scheduled to remain closed until April 3, though officials note that unfavourable weather conditions could impact the project timeline.
Durham Region said the closure is required to allow for the installation of sanitary sewers. While through traffic will be restricted, local access for residents will be maintained, and businesses along the route will remain open throughout construction.
Detour routes will be clearly posted in advance of the closure.
Work is expected to take place both day and night to complete the project as efficiently as possible. Regional officials acknowledged the construction may be disruptive and said efforts will be made to minimize impacts on the community.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution in the area and remain alert for pedestrians, cyclists, and construction crews.
