Three Durham Region employers have been recognized on this year’s Greater Toronto’s Top Employers list, an annual competition now in its 20th year celebrating organizations with strong human resources practices and progressive workplace policies.

The list, compiled by Mediacorp, highlights employers across the Greater Toronto Area that demonstrate leadership in areas such as employee benefits, workplace culture, professional development, and community involvement.

“The Greater Toronto Area is one of the world’s most dynamic and multicultural urban centres,” said Stephanie Leung, an editor with Mediacorp and manager of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. She noted that workplace diversity and inclusion are deeply embedded in the organizations recognized, reflecting the communities in which they operate.

This year’s GTA employers also expanded initiatives supporting employees returning to in-office work, including enhanced social engagement, professional development opportunities, and redesigned workspaces. According to Kristina Leung, managing editor of the project, employers are increasingly tailoring return-to-office policies to balance employee needs with business competitiveness.

Durham Employers Honoured

The Durham Region organizations recognized on this year’s list include:

  • Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) in Pickering

  • Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences in Whitby

  • Computer Room Services Corporation in Ajax

Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (Pickering)

MPAC was recognized for its employee benefits, including a five-day paid holiday shutdown between Christmas and New Year’s, generous vacation allowances, pension contributions, and a comprehensive wellness program that includes financial well-being, flexible work options, and wellness training for managers.

Computer Room Services Corporation (Ajax)

The Ajax-based company was noted for its retirement savings contributions, phased retirement options, and family-focused benefits such as parental leave top-ups.

Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Whitby)

Ontario Shores earned recognition for its focus on employee wellness and development, offering access to on-site fitness facilities, tuition subsidies, extensive training programs, flexible work arrangements, and an Innovation Fund that supports staff-led initiatives to enhance patient care and workplace well-being.

Evaluation Criteria

Employers are assessed across eight criteria, including workplace environment, benefits, vacation policies, employee communications, performance management, training and development, and community involvement.

The Greater Toronto’s Top Employers competition is open to public and private sector organizations with a head office or principal place of business in the GTA.
