Unseasonably mild weather expected across southern Ontario this week will come to an abrupt end heading into the weekend, with a significant temperature swing forecast for Durham Region and surrounding areas.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, daytime highs in the Greater Toronto Area are expected to reach 10 to 11°C on Friday, accompanied by cloudy skies and periods of rain.
However, temperatures are forecast to fall sharply Friday evening. Durham Region could see temperatures drop to around –3°C, while Mississauga, Brampton, and Halton Region may dip to –4°C. Toronto and Hamilton are expected to reach lows near –2°C overnight.
On Saturday, daytime highs may reach 1°C, with evening temperatures falling back to approximately –3°C. There is a 70 per cent chance of rain during the day, with precipitation potentially changing to snow by evening.
Colder conditions are expected to continue on Sunday, with a high near –1°C and overnight lows dropping to –6°C. Cloudy skies are forecast, along with a 40 per cent chance of flurries.
Seasonal norms for this time of year typically include daytime highs around –3°C and overnight lows near –11°C.
