Durham Regional Police say a 54-year-old man is facing stolen vehicle–related charges after fleeing a hit-and-run collision in Scugog early Tuesday morning.
Police say officers from North Division responded to a collision at Lake Ridge Road and Regional Highway 47 at approximately 12:50 a.m. on December 30. When officers arrived, they learned one of the drivers had fled the scene on foot.
Investigators later confirmed the vehicle involved had been reported stolen from the Toronto area.
With assistance from the K9 Unit and Tactical Support Unit, officers searched the area and located the suspect hiding in a heavily wooded field. He was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect, who has no fixed address, was charged and later released on an undertaking. His name and further details are available through Durham Regional Police Service.
Police are asking anyone with cellphone, dashcam, or surveillance footage, or information related to the incident, to contact Cst. Jaswal of North Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 3146.
