A Toronto man is facing a first-degree murder charge following a deadly tent fire in the city’s downtown core.
Emergency crews responded to reports of a fire near Yonge Street and Charles Street shortly after 6 a.m. on December 26. Police say a tent and mattress were deliberately set on fire, and additional items were allegedly thrown onto the flames to intensify the blaze.
A man was rescued from the tent and transported to hospital in life-threatening condition. He later died from his injuries.
Investigators arrested Loewen Wolfe, 36, of Toronto, who has now been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the incident.
Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information to contact Toronto Police at 416-808-7400 or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
