A man in his 30s was hospitalized in critical condition following a shooting in Oshawa, according to Durham Regional Police.
Police were called just after 6 a.m. to reports of a male shot in the abdomen near Simcoe Street North and Bond Street East. The victim was quickly transported to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre for emergency surgery. By the following day, police reported that the man’s condition had stabilized.
Investigators are still trying to determine the exact location and circumstances of the shooting. Duty Inspector Jeff Caplan noted that no reports of gunshots were received, suggesting the shooting may not have occurred in public.
“A nearby citizen discovered the victim and called 911,” Caplan said, emphasizing that there is currently no known threat to public safety.
Officers canvassed the area, which includes multiple apartment buildings above stores, and closed Simcoe Street North for several hours while collecting evidence and speaking with potential witnesses.
Police are now seeking assistance from the public. Anyone who was in the area or has dashcam footage is asked to contact Durham Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
