Five individuals from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), including four teenagers, have been charged in connection with a violent jewelry store robbery in Ontario earlier this year.

The accused, aged 15 to 21, are from Mississauga (2), Brampton, Toronto, and Pickering, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The incident occurred on June 20 at around 5 p.m. when multiple masked individuals armed with tools entered D.C. Taylor Jewellers on Hurontario Street in Collingwood. The suspects forcibly took merchandise before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

The preliminary investigation suggested that the robbery, in this town of roughly 25,000 near Blue Mountain Ski Resort, was coordinated and planned. Responding officers secured the scene, gathering witness statements and surveillance footage.

After several months of investigation, detectives arrested the five suspects:

  • Ellora Cote, 21, Mississauga – charged with robbery with violence and possession of break-in instruments.
  • Malak Tafari Rawlins, 19, Toronto – charged with robbery with violence, possession of property obtained by crime, disguise with intent, and possession of break-in instruments.
  • 15-year-old, Mississauga; 16-year-old, Pickering; 17-year-old, Brampton – each charged with robbery with violence, possession of property obtained by crime, disguise with intent, and possession of break-in instruments. The Brampton youth also faces two counts of failing to comply with a sentence.

The three younger teens cannot be publicly identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

All five are scheduled to appear in Collingwood court at a later date.
