Southern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area, is under a special weather statement as snow and freezing rain move through the region on Tuesday morning.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, total snowfall of 5 to 10 centimetres is expected in cities including Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, Oakville, Milton, Durham Region, and areas stretching from Stratford to east of Ottawa.
There is also a risk of freezing rain or freezing drizzle in locations along and north of the Highway 401 corridor. Snow is forecast to lighten Tuesday morning and may transition to periods of light rain or drizzle by midday.
Environment Canada warns that travel could be challenging, as roads and walkways may become icy and slippery, with icy surfaces sometimes difficult to detect. Rush hour traffic may be impacted, and residents are advised to allow extra travel time and prepare for rapidly changing conditions.
