The Local 30 food drive is collecting non-perishable food for Feed the Need Durham, giving union members and supporters a way to help the Durham food-support organization through December 5.
The Women’s Committee of Sheet Metal Workers’ and Roofers’ Local Union 30 outlined the collection in a notice posted on October 28. Its food-drive poster names Feed the Need Durham as the beneficiary and asks for donations of non-perishable foods.
Drop-off options in Scarborough
The poster lists the Local 30 Union Hall at 190 Milner Avenue in Scarborough as a collection point. Donations are being accepted Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon, through December 5.
A donation bin is also available in the training centre for people attending training updates.
Meeting and Christmas-party collections
The Local 30 food drive poster also lists collection opportunities during the union’s monthly meetings on October 28 and November 25, starting at 6:30 p.m. With the October meeting date now past, November 25 is the next meeting collection listed.
Another collection is planned at the children’s Christmas party on December 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Brighton Convention Center, 2155 McNicoll Avenue.
Although these drop-off locations are outside Durham Region, the campaign has a direct local connection through its named Durham beneficiary. The notice does not provide a fundraising target, a total collected or a detailed list of preferred food items beyond non-perishable foods.
