Durham highway work will bring new overnight express-lane and ramp closures on Highway 401 in Pickering and westbound lane restrictions on Highway 407 between Whitby and Ajax from November 2, according to Ontario 511.
The six provincial records were updated on October 27. They describe work scheduled for the following week, not restrictions beginning on the October 28 publication date.
Pickering: express lanes and Brock Road ramps
Four nightly-construction entries begin Monday, November 2, and run through Saturday, November 7:
- All eastbound Highway 401 express lanes between Whites Road and Brock Road are listed as closed from 9 p.m. November 2 through 7 a.m. November 7.
- The eastbound collector off-ramp at Brock Road is listed as fully closed from 10 p.m. November 2 through 5:30 a.m. November 7.
- The westbound on-ramp at Brock Road is listed as fully closed from 9 p.m. November 2 through 5:30 a.m. November 7.
- All westbound express lanes at Brock Road are listed as closed from 7 p.m. November 2 through 5 a.m. November 7. The provincial record names Brock Road at both ends of that segment.
These are nightly work periods. The listed multi-day start and end dates do not mean that every affected lane or ramp is closed continuously throughout the week. An express-lane closure also should not be described as a shutdown of every Highway 401 lane, including collectors.
Highway 407: two left lanes affected
Two maintenance entries cover Highway 407 westbound between Lake Ridge Road in Whitby and Sideline 14 in Ajax. Both identify the two left lanes.
A continuous-maintenance entry runs from 10 p.m. November 2 until 6 a.m. November 3. A separate nightly-maintenance entry begins at 10 p.m. November 2 and ends at 6 a.m. November 7.
The entries overlap on the first night. Ontario 511 does not explain whether they describe separate crews or stages. They should not be added together to claim that four lanes are closed.
New schedules differ from this week’s work
The Pickering records were updated between 11:33 a.m. and 11:42 a.m. October 27, while the Highway 407 entries were updated at 1:48 p.m. and 2:37 p.m. They set out later work windows than the previously reported late-October restrictions.
DurhamRegion.com’s October 28 roundup also includes the November Highway 407 maintenance. Its publication date is not the start date of that work.
Drivers planning around the Durham highway work should check Ontario 511 before travelling and follow on-site traffic controls. The records reviewed do not identify signed detours, and schedules may change.
