The Region of Durham is continuing construction on the Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit (DSBRT) project along Kingston Road (Durham Regional Highway 2) in Ajax, with additional lane restrictions, lane shifts and signal changes at intersections between Rotherglen Road and Galea Drive.
The affected intersections are Kingston Road at Westney Road, Chapman Drive/Ritchie Avenue, Harwood Avenue and Salem Road. In some areas, isolated lane reductions to a single lane will be in place.
The work accommodates construction of centre median bus rapid transit stations. Changes to traffic signal timings, including offset left-turn lanes and fully protected left-turn signals, are also being implemented to improve safety for motorists, the Region says.
Work is expected to continue until late spring 2027, when new permanent lane configurations will be implemented. Unfavourable weather may affect the schedule. The project is partially funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
The Region says it recognizes the work may be disruptive and will make every effort to complete it quickly and efficiently. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews. A live interactive map of construction projects and traffic information is available at durham.ca/TrafficWatch, and business supports are listed at durham.ca/OpenForBusiness.
