The Oshawa Bright and Merry Market will return on Friday, November 20, with a free downtown celebration centred on City Hall’s Civic Square and the surrounding area.
In an October 21 announcement, the city outlined live entertainment, artisan vendors, family activities and a park illumination as the opening of its holiday season.
Lights, music and family activities
At 8:30 p.m., visitors are invited to the North Parkette at City Hall for the official illumination of festive lights and installations. That time applies to the illumination, not an announced start time for every market activity.
Live musical performances are planned for the Bandshell in Memorial Park, with roaming entertainment and buskers elsewhere around the event.
Families can take part in hands-on activities with LivingRoom Community Art Hive, help paint a bus with Durhamways, ride the holiday trolley around downtown, view festive displays and take a photo with Santa.
The vendor market will feature handmade gifts and other items from local artisans and makers. Food vendors and downtown restaurants will offer meals, snacks and seasonal treats.
Community partners will host additional activities
The city lists holiday-themed activities, crafts, food and entertainment at participating community partners. Those include the Canadian Automotive Museum, Canadian Tank Museum, Oshawa Public Libraries’ McLaughlin Branch, Oshawa Senior Community Centres 55+, The Robert McLaughlin Gallery and St. George’s Memorial Church.
The October announcement does not provide a separate timetable for every partner activity. Visitors should check the official event page for full details rather than assume each location follows identical hours.
Food donations encouraged
Visitors to the Oshawa Bright and Merry Market are encouraged to bring non-perishable food for Feed the Need in Durham.
Donation bins will be available for the event at City Hall, The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, the McLaughlin library branch, the Canadian Automotive Museum and Oshawa Senior Community Centres 55+.
The market is presented by the City of Oshawa with support from community partners. Admission is free; the announcement does not state that purchases from food or merchandise vendors are included.
Residents planning their evening should check the city’s Bright and Merry page for the latest programme and any severe-weather updates before leaving home.
