A Port Perry homicide charge has been laid after a man was found dead near Water Street and Mary Street on Tuesday morning.
Durham Regional Police Service identified the victim as Taylor John Frey, 32, of Port Perry. North Division officers responded to a sudden-death call at about 8 a.m. on October 6 and found Frey with traumatic injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The homicide unit took over the investigation and identified a suspect. Police said the suspect was arrested without incident at about 2:30 p.m. the same day.
Second-degree murder allegation
Ryan Bullock, 33, of Port Perry has been charged with second-degree murder and was held for a bail hearing. The charge is an allegation that has not been proven in court.
Police described the death as Durham Region’s fourth homicide of 2026. Investigators now say the incident was isolated and there is no broader concern for public safety.
The update materially changes the initial October 6 report, which described a suspicious death and active homicide investigation without identifying the victim or announcing an arrest.
