Scugog council highlights for September include support for a community hockey fundraiser, recognition of a local dancer, planning presentations and an update on a new public mapping portal.
The Township of Scugog published its monthly summary on October 2. The notice covers decisions and presentations from the September 14 council meeting, along with financial and operational reports received by council.
Port Perry hockey event receives fee waiver
Council heard a delegation from Oak Ridges Hospice seeking support for Hockey Night in Port Perry. Members approved waiving ice and facility rental fees for the event.
The meeting also included a presentation honouring Port Perry resident Emma Breeze for her achievements at the Ontario Closed Highland Dance Championships and the Junior World Highland Dance Championships.
Council supported correspondence from the township’s finance director and treasurer calling for the annual Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund allocation to be permanently doubled.
Planning proposals presented to council
SmartCentres and planning firm MHBC gave a presentation about a zoning bylaw amendment at 1535 Highway 7A. Council received the presentation for information.
Manorville Homes also presented a zoning bylaw amendment proposal for 15682 Simcoe Street North. That presentation was also received for information. Receiving a presentation does not itself mean a development application has received final approval.
Council was also given a report on distributing proceeds from the 2025 Fore Scugog Charity Golf Tournament. The township previously announced grants from the fundraiser for local youth organizations.
GeoHub adds public maps and election information
An information technology strategic-plan update noted that Scugog has launched a beta GeoHub portal for public use. Current map viewers include township wards, election voting locations, parks, trails, cemeteries and heritage buildings.
Information about the Heritage Conservation District is available through work with the Lake Scugog Historical Society. The township says future additions are expected to include ongoing capital projects, a development-application tracker, a strategic-plan dashboard and topic-based story maps.
Financial and operating reports received
The September Scugog council highlights also list several reports received for information. They include results from the 2027 budget survey, a capital closing report, the 2026 annual investment update and operating results through July 31.
Other items covered annual insurance and risk management, an extension for the Scugog Community Recreation Centre concession booth agreement, the 2026 Canada Day celebration and an update on the township’s strategic plan.
Residents can review the linked reports, agenda, minutes and meeting video through the township’s council calendar. The municipal news page also offers subscriptions for future notices.
