Oshawa Fire Prevention Week will focus on safe lithium-ion battery charging through public events and demonstrations from October 3 to 10.
The 2026 theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower.” Oshawa Fire Services says common charging habits can reduce fire risks involving phones, laptops, e-bikes, scooters and tools.
Community events
Firefighters will take part in Community Safety Day at Fire Hall 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. October 3 and attend the Oshawa Generals game at 6:05 p.m. October 4.
Displays are planned at Oshawa Centre from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. October 8 through 10. Activities include demonstrations, fire-truck tours and information about charging, alarms and home escape plans.
Charging advice
Fire Services recommends recognized safety marks, approved chargers and hard charging surfaces. Devices should be unplugged when fully charged. E-bikes, scooters and tools should be charged outdoors when possible and never block exits.
Batteries must not go into garbage or regular recycling because they can ignite. Full Oshawa Fire Prevention Week details are available from the City.
