Scugog September 30 closures will affect three municipal facilities as the township observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The Township of Scugog says the Municipal Office, Fire Administration Office and Scugog Community Recreation Centre will be closed on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
Facilities reopen October 1
All three facilities are scheduled to reopen Thursday, October 1 for their standard operating hours. The notice does not identify any additional closure dates or changes to emergency response.
Residents planning an in-person visit should move it to another business day and check the township’s official notice for any later updates. The closure applies to the listed municipal buildings and recreation centre.
September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a federal statutory holiday that honours children who never returned home from residential schools, survivors, their families and communities. Orange Shirt Day is also marked on the same date.
Scugog’s notice directs residents to the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation for further information about the observance. The First Nation is located on Scugog Island and is an important part of the local community.
The Scugog September 30 closures follow similar service notices issued by other Durham municipalities for the national observance.
