Registration is open for the first Bowmanville Complex programs, with activities in the new multi-sport dome scheduled to begin October 13.
The Bowmanville Community Complex, formerly called the South Bowmanville Recreation Centre, is opening in phases. Clarington says programs for the gymnasium and multi-purpose rooms will be announced as work in the main building is completed.
Programs shaped by community input
More than 1,400 people contributed ideas to the recreation plan. The first season includes activities for toddlers, children, teens, adults and older residents.
Offerings range from Mini Kicks, Sports Explorers and family drop-ins to circuit training, functional strength classes, soccer, flag football and ultimate Frisbee. Older-adult options include Walking Soccer, Pole Walking Plus, Osteo Fitness and stretching.
New sports leagues and girls’ programs
The first Clarington Sports Leagues season will include adult co-ed indoor soccer in partnership with Darlington Soccer Club. Participants can register as individuals or teams.
Her Game, Our Goal will offer grant-supported basketball, soccer and tennis programming for girl-identified youth. Space is limited and registration is required.
Large complex opening in stages
The completed facility will exceed 172,000 square feet and is expected to receive more than 675,000 visits each year. Planned amenities include a FIFA-sized dome, indoor track, two FIBA-sized courts, studio space, an outdoor skating trail, playground, splash pad and aquatics centre. Several features will open in 2027.
The facility will be cash-free. Residents should check the online registration system for current availability, fees, ages and session times.
