The Oshawa FireWolves dispersal draft brought five players into the National Lacrosse League club’s plans, led by star forward Jeff Teat with the first overall selection.
Oshawa selected players made available after the Ottawa Black Bears and Philadelphia Wings ceased operations. The team also completed a post-draft trade with the Saskatchewan Rush.
Jeff Teat taken first overall
Teat, a 29-year-old left-handed forward from Brampton, recorded 115 points for Ottawa during the 2025-26 season. His 44 goals and 71 assists placed him fourth in NLL scoring.
The FireWolves said Teat became the fastest player in league history to reach 600 career points, reaching the mark in five seasons. He has produced at least 108 points in each of those seasons and set a career high with 136 points in 2023.
Teat was the NLL Rookie of the Year in 2022 and has earned multiple first- and second-team league honours. His record also includes a 2024 Premier Lacrosse League most valuable player award and a 2025 PLL championship.
General manager and head coach Glenn Clark said the addition gives Oshawa an elite scorer and playmaker as the club prepares for its second season at the Tribute Communities Centre.
Three more draft selections join Oshawa
The FireWolves also selected transition player Ron John from Philadelphia, transition player Kevin Brownell from Ottawa and Ottawa defenceman Aidan Fearn.
Brownell brings 13 seasons of NLL experience. Fearn, chosen 53rd overall in the 2025 entry draft, is a faceoff specialist. Oshawa described John as a two-way player who can contribute defensively and in transition.
Post-draft trade adds Holden Garlent
Oshawa used its 13th dispersal-draft selection on forward Connor Kearnan, then traded him to Saskatchewan with defenceman Jaxon Fridge and the 20th pick in the 2026 entry draft.
The FireWolves received defenceman Holden Garlent, a Thorold native whom the club described as a mobile defender able to match up against top opposing forwards and move the ball in transition.
NLL free agency is scheduled to open September 18. The league’s 2026 entry draft is set for September 24 at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
